What It Takes To Be #1

Why would you do anything half-heartedly? Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart because God is watching! And if we are working for the Lord and not men, then why not strive to be the best? With the 2012 football season now underway, and my Gators looking at least a little better than last year, it's a great time to remind ourselves of what it takes to be the best at whatever we do. These words of wisdom came from football great, Vince Lombardi. Enjoy!

Commitment:

Winning is not a some time thing, it is an all the time thing. You don't do things right once in a while...you do them right all the time.

Truth:

Truth is knowing that your character is shaped by your every day choices.

Excellence:

Excellence must be pursued and wooed with all of ones might and every bit of effort one has. And each day is a new encounter and each week is a new challenge and all of the display and all of the noise and all of the glamour and all of the color and all of the excitement and all of the rings and all of the money; these are the things that really linger only in the memory. But the spirit, the will to excel and the will to win- these are the things that endure.

Results:

Winning is not everything- but making the effort to win is.

Passion:

There's only one way to succeed in anything, and that is to give it everything. I do, and demand that my players do.

Habit:

The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will.

Mental Toughness:

If you're lucky enough to find a guy with a lot of head and a lot of heart, he's never going to come off the field second.

Discipline:

The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will. (True leadership) is is in sacrifice, it is in self denial, it is in love, it is in loyalty, it is in fearlessness and humility, and it is in the perfectly disciplined will. This is not only the difference between men, this is the difference between great and little men.

How are you putting these attributes to use in whatever it is that you do? Do you have any advice to help others improve on any of these attributes?
