Don't Eat That Frog Just Yet!

There's an old saying that goes, "If the first thing you do when you wake up each morning is eat a live frog, nothing worse can happen for the rest of the day." Best-selling author and motivational speaker, Brian Tracy, applies this saying to productivity practices. He claims that if we complete the most difficult task on our To Do list first (i.e. "eat the frog"), we will gain energy and momentum for the rest of the day.

Although this may be sound advice, Jesus instructs His followers to do something a little less disgusting to achieve energy and momentum among other earthly needs. In Matthew 6:33, Jesus teaches us to, "Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

As leaders, we are to seek God the first of every day, week, month and year. Typically, that looks like this:

  • Start every day by reading His Word and praying,
  • Start every week by observing the Sabbath,
  • Start every month by tithing, and
  • Start every year by fasting.

By seeking the Kingdom first, we gain supernatural momentum for the tasks that lie ahead and, if nothing else, can celebrate that seemingly small victory of obedience. Putting God first makes the impossible possible and the unattainable attainable.
